You are up worried about your teen.
Sometimes it feels like neither of you are sleeping. You are are up worried, and they are just... up. You know that something isn’t right with them but you can’t quite put your finger on it.
You feel disrespected and resisted whenever you try to offer guidance. You are concerned about their grades and lack of motivation for the future. You are questioning their relationship choices, friend groups. You wonder if they are abusing substances or being unsafe online?
How do you know whether this is normal teen angst or if this is a turning point?
Maybe they are depressed. Maybe they are anxious. Maybe your kid just thinks it is cool to be a jerk. But, this is not how you want to raise your kid. You don’t know how to help them. You yell at them every time they share something that you don’t approve of. You are at the end of your rope and you aren't sure of what would be best for you or them right now.
My name is Alicia and I am a Teen Therapist
I help parents and teens navigate the ever changing climate of the parent child relationship. I remember all too clearly how hard it was to communicate with my parents as a teen. I was emotional and didn’t know what I needed or how to ask for things. I learned this the hard way and wish I had been brave enough to ask my parents to get me the help I needed.
I have seen parent teen relationships transform from the individual work we complete. Teens are often surprised by how much better they feel after working with me. Parents are grateful for the positive changes they see in their relationships with their teens. Given the additional difficulties for families due to COVID-19 restrictions I have effectively provided skills to facilitate greater satisfaction within the family unit.
I find that when I can intervene with an outside perspective teens can move from strong resistance to being more open to the love and care their parents want to provide. Families report spending more quality time together after their teen works with me. Teens often find me relatable due to my youthful persona which allows for us to build the therapeutic relationship and practice important skills. Some of the skills that I teach teens are to improve emotional regulation, relieve anxiety and manage depression with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
If you are ready to have a better relationship with your teen and see them happier, please call or text me for a Free 15 minute consultation at 408-597-4959 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss a plan.
